Wicktonville Utilities District
The Township is somewhat unique in offering all the most often needed utilities
from a single Utility District (and a single bill). WUD provides services of
the following necessity and convenience utilities to our residents:
- Water. Wicktonville enjoys an amble supply of water from
both confined and unconfined aquifers. The township’s treatment plant
then processes the water into drinking water and pumps it throughout the incorporated
and outlying areas. A water supplement is also available from the State Water
Project as needed.
- Electricity. WUD purchases wholesale power from the regional
electric company and transforms it into 110/220 volt current at various points
within town. This type of purchasing allows us to realize a savings in purchase
costs.
- Gas. WUD purchases its natural gas from the regional supplier
and manages delivery to residences and commercial locations within the Township’s
service boundaries.
- Telephone. WUD leveraged the Township’s internet
service, phone services were converted into a Voice over IP (VoIP) service
in late 2004.
- Internet. WUD provides a township-wide internet coverage
area (after the traditional carriers were unable to provide service). WUD
subscribes to a DS3 connection – 45 Mbps. That connection is then fed
to our residential and business customers at rates less than most traditional
carriers.
- Cable Television. WUD provides a cable television service
as an alternative to satellite television service providers. Wicktonville’s
distance from a major metropolitan center, however, does limit our channel
offering. WUD currently services about 25% of the population, with the balance
either using satellite or broadband television services, or choosing not to
have television service.
- Garbage. WUD operates the Township's sanitation group,
with garbage collection on Mondays (east-west running streets), Wednesday
(north-south streets) and Fridays (Wicktonville Boulevard, and streets west
of the Interstate). Tuesday, Thursdays and Saturdays collection service business
accounts and dumpsters.
- Sewer. WUD contracts with the Lintswitch Sewer District
to provide waste water treatment at a facility northeast of the Township along
County Road 15.
The Wicktonville Utility District is open Monday-Friday from 9am - 4:30pm,
and is located at 2200 Service Road, just north of Civic Plaza. WUD is also
available by phone at 612-2320 during business hours.
